I work 5 night shifts a week from 10:30 PM untill 6:30 AM. I never seem to have a problem during the week because I come home, relax for 30 minutes, shower and sleep since there is no one home it is nice and quiet. I get 7 hours straight and it works fine but then the weekend comes. I try to go to bed same time as my boyfriend which is usually midnight or 1 am and I sleep for about 2 hours. I wake up and no way I can go back to sleep. The evenings are always a struggle to stay awake.

Does anyone here have night shifts? and how do you deal with the day off jet lag?

Mike works night shift 3-11 and some times mid shift 11-7 I find that I try to keep the same hours as he does and that totally kills the kids schedules.... so I have started trying to keep the kids schedules..... I find that I sleep WAY better during the day..... I dont know if it is because I shoudl eb doing other things or I just am lazy.... Day time naps are the BOMB!!!!

I think I spend too much time reading on the internet. I heard that night shifts are very unhealthy. Raising blood pressure, heart rithm gets messed up, digestive system gets screwy, mood changes... But I have been doing this for over 2 years now and I have no problems at all. Only when I try to adapt to regular hours in the weekends. I love sleeping during the day and I never struggle to stay awake at night either...

Maybe we are born night walkers Becca! haha

Working nights kills you faster.

Try shifting over to days for a few weeks, you will notice a big difference. I worked graves for almost 3 years and then went swing shift and it made quite a difference in my life. when I am on a mail liner I get totaly screwd as I have the 12-6 after noons and nights.

Thats what I like about what I am doing now, 12-12 hour shift 0730-1930 on the fast ferry.
